A Hidden Gem
Named after the "park-like" character of the city (kept in check by strict zoning laws), Parkland is a small city (less than 13 square miles) tucked in the northwest corner of Broward County.
The city of Parkland didn't even have any retail stores until the housing boom of the late 1990's / early 2000's resulted in several large housing developments being constructed. Parkland is home to almost 25,000 residents.
A community with equestrian roots, outside of the planned communities, there are areas within Parkland that are comprised of residential equestrian properties and equestrian centers for horse enthusiasts, and it is not uncommon to see residents riding throughout the area. The cities Equestrian Center at Tempe Park hosts both equestrian and community events throughout the year.
The dark chapter in this small communities history focuses around the events of February 14, 2018. On that day, a gunman killed 17 people and injured another 17 at the local high school. The tragic event is the deadliest high school shooting in the U.S. and the painful repercussions will be felt forever in the Parkland community.
