Insulation Options

Keeping your metal building’s interior climate controlled for comfort as well as for maximizing the life of your structure is essential. Careful consideration to your insulation needs should be taken prior to the erecting of your steel building as it is much more expensive and extremely difficult to retro fit a metal building with insulation after the fact. The cost of insulation represents a small percentage of the total cost of your entire project and should not be neglected!

Standard White Vinyl Backed Metal Building Insulation

Standard steel building vinyl back insulation is composed of inorganic glass fibers which are bonded with a thermoset resin to form a uniformly textured blanket style insulation. These flexible blankets are provided in rolls and are laminated on one side with a vapor barrier. This is an essential part of the moisture control strategy. Metal building insulation is available in R-values ranging from low R-6 to R-30. The typical roll is 6’ wide helping to reduce the amount of labor need to install and come with a 1’ starter roll to offset the insulation seams from the panel seams.

Simple Saver System Steel Building Insulation

In addition to insulation draped over the purlins prior to roof sheeting being installed - when additional R-value is required, the cavities between the purlins can be filled with insulation as well.  Using straps and/or facing on the bottom leg of the purlin to hold the insulation in place, this “High R” insulation technique is the answer to applications with higher requirements and for those looking to achieve the highest energy efficiency.

Simple Saver System metal building insulation benefits include:

  • Available in R-19 (6") through R-76 (24") ratings
  • Finishes the building interior by hiding purlins and girts - eliminating the need to paint them.
  • Brightens the building interior with the bright white reflective surface - often reducing the number of light fixtures needed by 30%. While white is the most popular fabric liner color - other colors available include: black, silver, taupe, and custom colors upon request.
  • Cost effectively absorbs sound - with a 75% sound absorption rating.
  • Class A fire safety rating and is self-extinguishing in compliance with ASTM 1136.

DR!PSTOP Metal Building Condensation Control System

DRIP!STOP is an innovative product that works by creating a medium for trapping moisture in the specially designed pockets formed within the felt’s membrane. It is applied to the back of the roof panel during the manufacturing process. DRIP!STOP is a money-saving alternative that will save you up to 25% more in labor costs compared to installing standard white vinyl backed steel building fiberglass insulation. DRIP!STOP is held to a high standard of durability and efficiency. It is not susceptible to ripping, tearing or deteriorating like standard insulation and vapor barriers. Additionally, DRIP!STOP is UL 723-Approved for flame spread and smoke generation and comes with a 20-year adhesion warranty.

Commercial Metal Building Roll-up Door Reflective Insulation

As a commercial roll-up door is opened - the curtain of the door is wound around a drum located directly above the door. While this design maximizes the use of the interior steel building space by eliminating the sectional door tracks that would project into the space - it does present a challenge when it comes to insulation. A thick foam or fiberglass insulation would interfere or prevent the roll-up door curtain from wrapping around the drum when hoisted up. The practical alternative is the use of a polyethylene bubble film sandwiched between two protective sheets of strong metalized aluminum polyester film.
